Vestibular Rehab

Research has shown that as many as 20% or more adults have experienced a form of vestibular dysfunction, yet is often misdiagnosed and misunderstood. There are many different causes of vestibular disorders, and more often than not, a Physical Therapist trained in vestibular rehab can help!

What is the Vestibular System?

The vestibular system includes the inner ear and brain which helps coordinate with your vision and spatial orientation to help you stay in balance. It controls neck, trunk, and hip muscle activation to stabilize the head. If the vestibular system is affected due to injury, disease, or aging, symptoms that may occur include: dizziness (lightheaded), vertigo (spinning), imbalance (unsteady), blurred/bouncy vision, nausea, headaches, vomiting, motion sickness, cognitive changes, and psychological changes. Symptoms of vestibular disorders can greatly impact your life, and I would love to help you feel normal again! Treatment is offered in your home so you don’t have to drive when you are dizzy!

What to Expect

A thorough assessment will be performed including balance, gait, visual stability, ROM, strength, and positional testing. Based on findings, an evidence based exercise program and plan of care is developed specifically for you in order to help improve your balance and dizzy related problems.
